My daughter has an EHCP, she is 17. The EHCP took far too long to be agreed due to Local Education authority not following statutory guidelines.
By not having an EHCP plan, the whole process slows the child/young person from receiving the right help to meet their needs.
It took 10 months to receive the right EHCP. This delays the child/young person from vital services. My child was not receiving the right support in therapy or education, which caused her mental health to decline further, her self-esteem was at an all-time low, we needed help.
Thankfully we found Dramatherapy whilst the EHCP process was being delayed. Dramatherapy helped daughter explore her anxiety relating to her autism, helped her understand her ASD diagnosis and helped build her confidence and self-esteem. Now she is using them to help with career advice and job opportunities. Her confidence has increased her anxiety has declined and she has become more independent.
Dramatherapy has now been included in daughters EHCP as it has had such a huge impact on her life. Although there is CAMHS, waiting lists are high and once diagnosed with ASD, therapists are not always experienced in Autism. Dramatherapy has made a huge impact on my daughter’s life, she is smiling again and enjoying life. We are very grateful to have found them.
This service is brilliant, if more children/young persons could have access to it, it would be so beneficial; helping those on a waiting list with no access to therapy is so urgently needed. Children need the right support and intervention straight away otherwise their mental health will decline so quickly and then recovery takes longer.
